Wayne H. Smith,90 years of age of Mill Road, Lehighton, passed away on Friday, May 1, 2015, at Lehigh Valley Hospital Salisbury Twp..
Widower of Marian (Miller) Smith who died on May 20, 2009.
Wayne served honorably during WWII in the United States Navy. Returning home, Wayne worked as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic retiring from Bethlehem Steel. An active member of Ben Salem U.C.C. of Lehighton, he served on the church board of directors, and prior to his affiliation with Ben Salem served as an Elder and on the Cemetery Board of St. John's Mahoning.
A 32 Degree Mason, Wayne's Blue Lodge was Lehighton Lodge # 621 of the Free & Accepted Masons. As a member of the Scottish Rite, Lehigh Consistory, he belonged to the High 12 in the Masonic body.
A Lifetime and Founding member of the Mahoning Valley Fire Company where he served as Financial Secretary for forty plus years, Wayne earned his E.M.T. certificate in the early 1970's and was also active in the Penn Mahoning Ambulance Association.
A Board Emeritus member of Grundsow Lodge #8 Andreas Chapter, he was also a member of the Lehighton American Legion Post #314, and delivered for Lehighton Meals on Wheels.
Born Saturday, February 21, 1925 in East Penn Twp., son of the late George P. and Evelyn (Everett) Smith.

Dayle W. Smith and his wife Cathy of Lehighton;
Sister,
Mable E. (Smith) Wertman of Andreas;
Six grand children, Emily Gerber wife of Jeremy, Carly, and Dylan Smith, Daniel Stewart and his companion Hillary Spiel, Janson, and Kristin Stewart;
Three great grand children, Hunter, and Montana Stewart, Brandt K. Gerber
Preceded in death by his daughter, Gayle M. (Smith) Stewart on April 23, 2014; sisters, Miss Arlene H. Smith, and Mrs. Lottie Mae Miller.
Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to the Robert S. Nester Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc. 2066 West Penn Pike New Ringgold, Pennsylvania 17960.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday May 6, 2015 at 11 o'clock A.M. from Ben Salem U.C.C., 1965 Church Hill Road Lehighton, Pennsylvania 18235., Rev. Michael McGowan to officiate.
Friends shall be received in church from 9:30 A.M. until time of services on Wed. morning May 6, 2015, and
A Gathering of Friends will occur from 6 to 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday evening May 5, 2015 from the Robert S. Nester Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc. Rte. #309 2066 West Penn Pike New Ringgold, Pennsylvania 17960.
Masonic Services Tuesday evening at 7:15 P.M.
Interment with Military Honors will be at Ben Salem U.C.C. Cemetery, Lehighton.
