Walter Frederick Kunkel

Walter Frederick Kunkel, 92 years of age of Hazleton, Pennsylvania passed away on Thursday, March 25, 2021, at Lehigh Valley Hazleton Campus.

Born Sunday, September 23, 1928 in Weatherly, Pennsylvania. the son of the late Elmer J., and Molly Clementine (Garner) Kunkel. He was also predeceased by; his beloved wife on January 18, 2019 Rebecca Ann (Gicking) Kunkel; brothers, William, Gene, and John Kunkel; niece Donna (Kunkel) Bann, nephew Gerald " Jerry" Kunkel.

Survived by; nieces, Lori (Steve) Clabia, Tami ( Darin) Ambosie, Beth ( Paul) Dice, Debbie Kunkel ( Donny Weston) and extended family members.

A graduate of Weatherly High School, Walter served honorably as a member of the United States Navy as a Seaman during WWII. Walter, was a transportation mechanic leader. He retired from PPL after 25 years of service.

Walter enjoyed tinkering around his house, visiting his nieces and their families, coffee breaks with his pals, annual vacations to Hawaii, keeping in touch with classmates, PPL'ers, and Weatherly friends.

Walter loved going for rides in his blue Cadillac. After retirement, he worked for many years at Wrights & Bergers Car Dealerships

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Hazleton, and a continuous Life Member of the Weatherly American Legion Post # 360; recently receiving his 75 year certificate. Walter, was a member of the Hazle Azalea Fellowship Masonic Lodge #327 for many years.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Philip J. Jeffries Funeral Home & Cremation Services 211 First Street Weatherly, Pennsylvania 18255.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday March 31, 2021 at 11 o'clock A.M. from the funeral home. Friends may call from 9:30 A.M. until time of services.

Interment with Military Honors to be bestowed in Union Cemetery Weatherly, Pennsylvania.
