W. Robert Gillespie, 80, of Bell Drive, Reading, Pennsylvania, passed away on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 in the Reading Hospital.
Born in Palmerton, Carbon County, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late William M. Gillespie and Eleanor (Christ) Gillespie. Bob was also predeceased by his sister and her husband, Gayle and Richard Wolff; and his niece, Amy Wolff.
Surviving are: his children, Robert C. Gillespie of Reading; and Jennifer E. Gillespie of Tampa, Fl.; siblings, Nancy Johnston and her husband Frank of Arlington, Va.; James M. Gillespie and his wife Lisa of Pottsville; and grandchildren whom he adored, Benjamin, and Juliet Gillespie. Many nieces and nephews also survive Uncle Bob.
Raised throughout the Coal Regions, Bob graduated from Lansford High School, and matriculated to Pennsylvania State University where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry in 1962. Bob worked in manufacturing as a Chemist for Firestone Plastics Co., Armstrong Cork Co., Metropolitan Edison Co., and Wilson Safety Products. In 1970, Bob decided to become a teacher. He studied as a recipient of a DuPont Fellowship at the University of Delaware earning his Master of Education Degree in Natural Sciences. Bob taught chemistry at McCaskey High School in Lancaster, Reading High School, and retired from Exeter Township School District in 2009.
Bob’s number one priority were his children, and doting on his grandchildren. His passing has left a huge void. In his spare time, Bob enjoyed genealogy and coin collecting.

A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at 11 o'clock A.M. from the funeral home. Friends may visit on Tuesday morning from 9:30 A.M. until the time of services.
Interment will be at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Tamaqua, Pennsylvania.
