Thomas J. McGrath, Jr., of Hunter Street, Tamaqua, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 27, 2017, at home in the care of his family at the age of 78.
Survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Kay Marie (Portner) McGrath; daughters, daughters, Marie K. Burrell and her husband Thomas of Slatington, Donna J. Figura and her companion Keith Snyder of Allentown, Joan Lare of Tamaqua; brother, Leo McGrath of Mahanoy City; sister, Linda Wertman wife of Merle of Tamaqua; 7 grand children, six boys and a girl; 4 great grand children.
A 1958 Tamaqua High School graduate, Tom was a standout football player. He served honorably in the United States Army, and returned home to work for the former Schultz Tire of Hometown, retiring from Hart Metal's of Tamaqua.
Tom was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish, camp and hunt. A passonate Notre Dame football fan, he and Kay traveled extensively. A founding member and coach of the Tamaqua Knee Hi Football program, coaching the Eagles for many years.
Born Wednesday, November 29, 1939 in Coaldale the son of the late Thomas J., Sr., and Helen (Truskey) McGrath. He was predeceased by a sister Barbara Bradley.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday December 30, 2017 at 11 o'clock AM from St. Richard's R.C.C. located at 709 Barnesville Drive Barnesville, Pennsylvania 18214. Friends shall be received in church from 9:30 A.M. until time of services.
Interment with Military Honors will be in St. Jerome R.C.C. Cemetery, Tamaqua, Pennsylvania..
