Mr. Thomas H. Hartz, Sr., age 70, of Tamaqua, Pa., died Wednesday, March 24, 2010, at Lehigh Valley Hospital Salisbury Twp.
Tom, retired from the former Rockwell Corp, then Goss Inc. of Reading, and then worked for a brief time at Kovatch Mobile Equipment of Nesquehoning. He owned and operated T. Hartz & Son's a fire extinguisher sales & service for many years.
Tom's civic concern, lead him to a storied tenure as a volunteer fireman and 50 yr. member of the Citizens Fire Company of Tamaqua. Holding both social and line responsibilities, he served as a trustee, line officer, captain, recording secretary, current safety officer, and for many years was the companies Fire Chief. In conjunction with his company responsibilities, he was first assistant to the chief of the Community of Tamaqua during Chief Robert "Bip" Delay's term.
Lutheran by faith, Tom belonged to the Six Counties Fireman's Assoc., Schuylkill County Fireman's Relief, and the State Fireman's Assoc.
He helped to organize many community sponsored parades.
Born in Coaldale, he was the son of the late Glenn and Myrtle (Gordon) Hartz.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mrs. Jean (Walters) Hartz;

Lynn Ann (Hartz) Navratil wife of Frank of Mahanoy City,.
Jennifer Hartz of Tamaqua;

Jeffrey S. Hartz and his wife Mary, Jason G. Hartz, all of Tamaqua;

Mrs. Jeanette (Hartz) Kline wife of Richard of Orwigsburg,
Mrs. Paula (Hartz) Mertz of Tamaqua;
Preceded in death by two sons, John, and Rodney Hartz, sister, Mrs. Myrtle Weaver.

Arrangements are being handled by E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home, Inc., 655 East Broad Street Tamaqua, Pa., where the family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM Friday, March 26, 2010.
Funeral service will be at E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home, Inc. at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 27, 2010.
Interment will be at Sky View Memorial Park in Tamaqua.
