Mrs. Thelma M. Gangwer went to be with her Lord on Thursday, November 27 after an extended illness.
Born in Weatherly she was the daughter of the late John J. & Irma D. (Allen) Rohde.
She lived in Weatherly, PA her entire life where she graduated from Weatherly High School and was a member of the class of 1943. She graduated from McCann's School of Business in Hazleton as a stenographer. Thelma married her high school sweetheart, Harry L. Gangwer III, who preceded her in death on February 14, 1980, they were married on April 24, 1948.
Thelma was a lifelong member of Zion's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Weatherly where she was active in the Busy Bees, Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and many other organizations. She also served as church secretary for 30 + years. She was also a Den Mother for many years with the Weatherly Cub Scout Program.
Thelma worked for a short period of time at Tung-sol Electric in Weatherly and also was employed by Holiday Inn-Pocono in White Haven from 1980-1983. She also assisted her son in managing the Rainbow Coffee Shop in Weatherly from 1983-1988.
She enjoyed life and enjoyed cooking, playing cards with her friends, knitting and reading. She was also a member of the Weatherly Senior Citizens Club.
She is survived by her loving son, Barry A. Gangwer and his wife Ann of Weatherly and several nieces and a nephew, as well as cousins and many friends.
Calling Hours: Tuesday December 2, 2008 from 10:30-11am at the Philip J. Jeffries Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday at 11AM from the Philip J. Jeffries Funeral Home with Rev. Walter Breiner Jr officiating.
Interment at Union Cemetery, Weatherly, PA.
Our tears of sadness will be mingled with tears of joy, as Thelma is welcomed into the arms of her loving savior, Jesus Christ.
