Terry L. Bachert

Terry Lee Bachert, 68 years old, of Lewistown Valley, Pennsylvania died suddenly on Friday, December 20, 2024 upon arrival at St. Luke's Miners Memorial Medical Ctr. Coaldale, Pennsylvania. 

Born June 9, 1956 in Pottsville, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late Marlin and Hazel (Leiby) Bachert.

Surviving are sisters, Lou Anne Bachert and Jill Paea; his beloved dog Reese; and chosen family, Joseph Hurst and his wife Carol, their children, Glendon, Violet, Daniel, Katie, Caleb, Saralyn, Susanna, and Jemima all of Lewistown Valley, Tamaqua Pennsylvania.

Terry graduated from Tamaqua Area High School in 1974. He was employed by Dana Corporation in Reading for over 30 years, however Terry's passion was farming. He would barely get home from work, and he would head right out to the farm. From the time he was little, he was always on a farm. As a child, along side his grandfather or an uncle. As an adult, alongside other farmers and mentors who were needing a hand. In 2005 Terry's life long dream came true when he was able to buy his own farm from Bruce and Helen Leatherman with today that farm being the last dairy farm in the Lewistown Valley.

He very much enjoyed having friends and neighbors stop by the farm to visit. Terry enjoyed hunting, the outdoors, and taking his dog for walks. Terry was a man who would get your mail when you were sick, shovel your sidewalks when it snowed or plow your driveway. If you needed a tractor or a wagon , all you had to do was call. He always tried to be there if someone needed a hand. He loved stray cats, feeding birds and rooting for the underdog.

For those of us who knew him and called him a friend or family, we were blessed. And for those of you who took the time to call him friend or family, I know he would have wanted to say thank you and thank you for blessing his life.

A memorial gathering will be held at 880 Valley Road, Tamaqua on January 4th at 11 o'clock A.M. It will be out of doors, please dress casually and for warmth. Refreshments to follow at the New England Fire Company, 7 Miller Lane Tamaqua at Noon.
