Gene S. Gerhard

June 19, 1928 — December 6, 2018

Gene S. Gerhard, husband, father, grandfather gentleman, man of faith, life long resident of Packer Township, peacefully returned home to his Lord on Thursday, December 6, 2018, while in the loving care of his family at the age of 90.

Survived by his beloved wife of sixty-nine years, Mary (Hauze) Gerhard; daughters, Aimee Sterenchock of Hazleton,  Marybeth Fortwangler wife of Barry of Weatherly; sons, Jeffrey W. Gerhard of Weatherly,  Russell S. Gerhard and his wife Lori of Weatherly; grandchildren, Glenn, Jennifer, Christina, Arlene, Bethany, Christopher, Tony, Kathy, Stephanie, Heather, Jodi, Carie, Tiffany; 13 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild.

Born Tuesday, June 19, 1928 in Packer Township the son of the late Samuel and Hattie E. (Smith)  Gerhard.  Gene was predeceased by; daughter, Muriel Scalise; son, Gene D. Gerhard; brothers, Raymond and Marshall Gerhard.

A graduate of Weatherly High School, Gene served honorably in the United States Navy. Upon his return home he worked for Tung-Sol in Weatherly and retired from PP&L.  A devoted member of Faith Assembly of God in Hazleton, Gene was selfless often praying for others rather than himself.  He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, playing quoits and the companionship of his dog Zach.

A gentleman farmer he tended his land in Packer Township, huckstering to area homes.  Gene's corn was legendary; however, his greatest accomplishment was being a Great Husband, Dad, Grandfather and Friend.

A Memorial Services will be held on Monday December 17, 2018 at 11 o'clock A.M. from the Funeral Home, Rodney Murphy to officiate.  Friends may call at the funeral home from 9:30 A.M. until time of services.

Interment with Military Honors Union Cemetery, Weatherly, Pennsylvania.
