Ruth M Anthony

Ruth Marie (Baker) (Linnell) Anthony , 89 passed away early on the morning of December 8th at the home of her daughter in Weatherly. Born in the Parsons section of Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Mary (Faux) Baker. After the death of her parents at an early age, she was adopted by the late Frank and Bertha (Rohloff) Linnell. She lived in White Haven until moving to Weatherly in 2001 to live with her daughter.

She attended the White Haven Schools, before enlisting in the Army during World War II in 1943. She was a PFC. She was stationed at Fort Stockton in California, serving as a parachute rigger until her discharge in 1946. She returned to White Haven, where she worked until marrying George (Ike) Anthony.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Ruth was a devoted and loving grandmother and great grandmother, who loved spending time playing with her grandchildren.

A member of Centenary Methodist Church, she enjoyed helping making Easter eggs and pizzas. Ruth was a member of the American Legion Post 360 and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 360 of Weatherly. A member of the Diamond Divas Red Hat Society chapter, she enjoyed many good times with her Red Hat friends. She was also a member of the Carbon Copy Prime Time Club in Weatherly.

Preceding her in death in addition to her both sets of parents, her husband of 41 years, George (Ike) Anthony, brothers , George, William and Lewis.

Surviving are her daughter , Georgeann Herling, Weatherly , with whom she resided. Sons, Mark, White Haven and Dale, Quakertown. Grandchildren, Charlie Herling and his wife Ashley of Annville, Jeff
Herling and his wife, Michelle, Watertown, New York and Fritz Herling, Weatherly, Travis Parry and Raven Anthony, White Haven. Great grandchildren, Christian and Anna Grace of Annville, Archie and Ralphie Herling of Watertown, New York.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Philip J. Jeffries Funeral Home & Cremation Services 211 First St., Weatherly, Pa. where the family will receive friends on Friday, December 12, 2014 from 6-8 PM and on Saturday, December 13, 2014 from 9-10 AM.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at 10 o'clock AM at the Philip J. Jeffries Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Reverend Charles Englehart to officiate.

Interment with Military Honors will be at Laurel Cemetery, White Haven, Pa.

In llieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 360, 360 Veterans Lane, Weatherly, Pa. 18255 or Centenary United Methodist church Kitchen renovation in her name, 30 Carbon St., Weatherly, Pa 18255.
