Mr. Roland W. Gerhard, age 90, of Wetzel Run Drive Weatherly, Pa., died Saturday, December 19, 2009, at Weatherwood Carbon County Home, in Weatherly.
A 1935 Weatherly High School graduate, Roland served in the United States Army during WWII and the Korean War. During WWII he was a non commissioned officer attached to the medical department serving in the European Theater, for 41/2 years. During his tenure in the Korean War, he was stationed at the Valley Forge Military Hospital for 2 1/2 years.
After attending watch repair school he began a 29 years career as a General Agent with All State Life Insurance Company, having offices located in the Cherry Hill Mall and in Berlin New Jersey, retiring in 1987.
He was a life member of the Brooklawn American Legion, and was a member of the Hazleton Community Church.
Born in Packer Twp., he was the son of the late Robert and the Florence (Smith) Gerhard.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mrs. Ruth (Alden) Gerhard;

James G. Gerhard of Barrington, N.J.
Thomas A. Gerhard of Hazleton;
One Sister,
Mrs. Helen (Gerhard) Doleiden of Middlesex, N.J.;
One Brother,
Philip Gerhard of Nebraska;
Two grandchildren, James G., Jr., and Robert Jake.

A Memorial Service will be held at Hazleton Community Church
