Robert F.H. Lemasters

Robert F.H. LeMasters, 93, formerly of Tamaqua, PA passed away peacefully Wednesday October 15, 2014 at the Weatherwood Nursing facility, Weatherly, PA.

As he was known to start many conversations with new acquaintances, “ I was born in St. Louis”, Missouri December 22, 1920. He was the son of the late Harvey and Mabel (nee Behl) LeMasters.

A WWII veteran, Robert served proudly with the Navy in the Pacific Theater as 1st Gunner’s Mate aboard the heavy cruiser USS Portland (CA-33) participating in, among others, the Battles of the Coral Sea, Midway, Guadalcanal and Santa Cruz. At the end of the war he met his future wife Elizabeth W. Sourber in Philadelphia. They married Febuary 2, 1946 in Tamaqua. Bob joined his father-in-law as a watchmaker in the well-established Sourber’s Jewelry Store Broad St. Tamaqua, eventually acquiring the business as owner. He and Betty also ran the Gift Shop at Heisler’s Dairy Bar for many years.

The aficionado of unusual hats, Bob was a member of Masonic Blue Lodge No. 238, Tamaqua Lion’s Club and the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by wife Betty March 19, 2008, sister Florence and son Robert R. “Gramps” is survived by son Dr. Thomas LeMasters and his wife Sally, Tamaqua, PA, son Dr. William LeMasters and his wife Donna, Sunbury, PA; Grandson Thomas LeMasters and his wife Joelle, great-grandchildren Jane and Luke all of Yardley, PA; Granddaughter Meredith LeMasters, Philadelphia, PA; Granddaughter Kelly Dearman and her husband Dr. Brandon Dearman, great-grandchildren Adelynn and Alexavier all of Jacobis, PA; and Grandson William R. LeMasters and his wife Theresa, great-granddaughter Stella all of Sunbury, PA.

Interment Ft. Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, Pennsylvania.
