Robert D. Evans, age 89, of Brew Street Tamaqua, died Monday, August 26, 2013, at St. Luke's Miners Memorial in Coaldale.

Widower of the late Anita Mary (Kearney) Evans, who died on October 16, 2000.

A 1941 Tamaqua High School graduate, Bob served in the United States Navy during WWII.

As a foreman for the former Atlas Powder Co., Bob retired in 1982.

A member of the First United Methodist Church of Tamaqua, he served in many capacities, while singing in the Choir. Singing was a passion and Bob participated in the Coal Region Welsh Song Fest Choir, and was a member of the Coal Cracker Barber Shoppers for over 50 years.

Active in the Tamaqua Elks, he served as secretary for many years, being bestowed Elk of the year. He was a founding member of the Adult Day Care, delivered for Tamaqua Meals on Wheels, serving on the advisory board.

Bob held lifetime membership in the American Fire Company, and Tamaqua American Legion.

Having served on the Tamaqua School Board, he had presided as Board President. Active in the Schuylkill Democratic Club, Bob was acknowledged by the Governor for his 50 years of consecutive voting.

Bob was Tamaqua Citizen of the year, and Schuylkill County Welsh Citizen of the year.

Born in Tamaqua, he was the son of the late Daniel and Elizabeth (Cobley) Evans.

He is survived by his;

Daughter,
Ann E. (Evans) Kuhlkin wife of Kevin of Vienna, Va.;

Son,
R. Daniel Evans of Tamaqua;

Two grandchildren, Patrick, and Elizabeth Kuhlkin;

Nephew, Anthony Konecny of Columbus, Ohio.

Preceded in death by sisters, Mildred Aurand, and Alice Konecny.

Arrangements are being handled by E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 655 East Broad Street Tamaqua, Pa..

Private graveside services will be held on Friday August 30, 2013 with Military Honors at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Tamaqua.

A Memorial Service will be held at 6 o'clock P.M. from The First United Methodist Church 124 West Broad Street Tamaqua, Pa., Rev. Susan Daniels to officiate.

Friends shall be received at the First United Methodist Church from 5 to 6:00 P.M.
