Mr. Robert J. Barnisky, 69, of 424 White Street Weissport, Pa., formerly of Tamaqua, Pa., died Wednesday, November 26, 2008, surrounded by family and friends at 227 South Street Lehighton, Pa., having fought a valent battle with cancer.
Bob was a 1958 Tamaqua High School graduate where he served as Vice President of his senior class. Bob was and outstanding football and track star at Tamaqua, having been elected into the Tamaqua Area School District Athletic Hall of Fame in September of 2001.
Upon graduation he served in the US Army from 1958 to 1960, which encompassed a 17 month tour of duty with the 4th armored division in Germany.
From 1963 to 1969 Bob was a patrolman with the Capitol Police Dept. of Harrisburg, Pa., and from 1969 to 1971 served as a member of the Tamaqua Police Department. Retiring from law enforcement in 1971 he owned and operated Barnisky's Cafe on Mauch Chunk Street in Tamaqua, Pa. for 32 years, retiring in 2003.
Bob was a memebr of SS. Peter & Paul R.C.C., East End Fire Company, Beaver Run Fish and Game Club, Lansford Pennsylvania AMVETS post #83, and an associate member of the Lehighton American Legion.
His love of sports lead him to serve on the committee that helped start the Tamaqua Knee-Hi football program in 1962, he was a statistician for the local Times Newspaper for football and track results.
Born in Coaldale, Pa., he was the son of the late Joseph Barnisky and Kathryn (Cunningham) Barnisky.

Mrs. Mary Jane (Barnisky) Casper wife of Charles of Lock Haven, Pa. ;and nieces, Christy Litchfield, Karen Henry, and Kathy Condo;
Companion and fiancee, Gertrude "Toot" Green with whom he resided, her family, whom Bob viewed as his children and grand children; Hilbert Green and his wife Wendy, Harold Shellhammer and his wife Betty, Guy "Butch" Green and his wife Brenda, Sheila Green, Teresa Trudich and her husband Peter, Kelly Holtzer and her husband Rodger;
grandchildren;great grand children;great nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are being handled by E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home, Inc., 655 East Broad Street Tamaqua, Pa., where the family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Sunday, November 30, 2008 and from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM Monday, December 1, 2008.

Interment will be at SS Peter & Paul R.C.C. in Owl Creek, Tamaqua, Pa.
