Robert Edward Bannan, 83 years of age of East Broad Street Tamaqua, Pennsylvania passed away on Sunday, Easter morning, March 27, 2016, at St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital in Coaldale, Pennsylvania surrounded by his family.
Survived by his wife of sixty years, Bettye F. (Knox) Bannan; daughters, Mona E. Croll wife of Sheldon of Barnesville, Jayne E. Bass of Tamaqua, Cynthia L. Weeks wife of William of Atlanta, GA, Susan D. Estevez wife of Frank of Groton, CT, Maude E. Keich wife of Allen of Tamaqua, and M. Angela Traupman wife of Gene of Trinity, FL; and son, Robert W. Bannan of East McKeesport; 12 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren.
Born Monday, May 30, 1932 in Tamaqua, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Robert Ford and Dorothy M. (Kistler) Bannan.
A 1951 Tamaqua High School graduate, Robert was Vice-President of his graduating class, and co-captain of the football team. Robert served honorably for nine years in the United States Air Force, which included one year of service in Korea during the Korean War. Prior to his enlistment, he served in the Army National Guard for two years.
Robert retired from Lehigh Coal and Navigation Company of Tamaqua. He was a member of Bethany E. C. Church of Tamaqua and served on the board of trustees as well as the operations committee. He enjoyed woodworking, nature walks and the company of his family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc. 655 East Broad Street Tamaqua, Pennsylvania 18252.
A funeral service will be at 11 o'clock A.M. on Friday April 1, 2016 at the funeral home, Rev. Kevin Roberts to officiate.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, March 31, 2016, from the funeral home and on Friday morning April 1, 2016 from 10:00 A.M. until time of services.
Interment with Military Honors at Odd Fellows Cemetery Tamaqua, Pennsylvania.
