Richard W. Durham, age 62, of Packer Street Weatherly, died Thursday, December 15, 2011, having fought a courageous battle with cancer with his wife at his side, at Hospice Care of the V.N.A of N.E. Pa. in Wilkes Barre.
Richard served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, thru the Persian Gulf Conflict. Upon leaving he entered the Naval reserve serving again during Desert Storm.
Using the skills he acquired in the Navy, Richard was a Jurisdictional Inspector for F.M. Global, inspecting commercial facilities.
An outdoorsman, he loved to fish, and coached for the Weatherly Little League, and Babe Ruth Baseball associations, while his boys played. Computers, and listening to oldies music occupied his free time.
Born in Oakland, California, he was the son of the late Fred and Helen (Olson) Durham.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Gladys J. (Rich) Durham;
One Daughter,
Jeanna wife of Thomas Genetti of Weatherly;
Two Sons,
Nicholas Durham and his wife Kayla of Drums,
Richard B. Durham and his fiancee Amanda Trotta of Bear, DE;
Four grandchildren, Josette, Tiana, and Joseph Genetti and Gabriella Durham;
Richard's strength in fighting his illness was sustained as he awaited the coming birth of his fifth grandchild, a little girl due in January of 2012.
Brothers-in-Law, Frank and Sam Rich and their wives; nephews, and nieces also survive him.
Arrangements are being handled by Philip J. Jeffries Funeral Home, 211 First Street Weatherly, Pa. , Philip J. Jeffries F.D.
The family will receive friends at the Philip J. Jeffries F.H., from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Monday, December 19, 2011.
Memorial service will be held from the Philip J. Jeffries Funeral Home at 7:00 o'clock P.M., Monday, December 19, 2011, Rev. Robert A. von Frisch to officiate.
Private interment with Military honors Union Cemetery, Weatherly.
