Mr. Raymond C. Kinder, age 70, Laurelwood Street, Tamaqua, Pa., died Friday, May 9, 2008, in the Hometown Nursing & Rehabilitation Ctr., Tamaqua, Pa.
Mr. Kinder was a 1955 St. Clair High School graduate. Upon graduation he served in the United States Navy on the Destroyer Lloyd Thomas.
Returning home, Mr. Kinder entered Indiana University of Pennsylvania obtaining his teaching credentials, and began his 37 year tenure as a Math teacher, Department Head, and Administrator in the Tamaqua Area School District beginning in 1963. Obtaining his Principal and Superintendent Certifications from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa., Mr. Kinder served as Assistant Superintendent from 1978 to 1994 and became Superintendent of the Tamaqua Schools in 1994, serving until his retirement in 2000. Professionally, he helped organize and became the first President of the Tamaqua Education Association. He was a member of the P.S.E.A., P.A.S.B.O., and Pennsylvania Association of School Board Administrators.
Locally, Mr. Kinder belonged to St. Jerome's R.C.C. of Tamaqua, Pa., Tamaqua Lions, Elks, and was an associate member of the Hometown Fire Company.
Born in St. Clair, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Yenalavage) Kinder.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Mrs. Joanne P. (Pangonis) Kinder of Tamaqua, Pa., the daughter of Mrs. Mary H. Pangonis and the late Joseph J. Pangonis of Mahanoy City, Pa.;
Three Daughters,
Miss Elizabeth A. Kinder of Ridgewood, N.J.;
Mrs. Amy J. (Kinder) Leonard, wife of Gerald of Ashland, Pa.;
and Miss Heather J. Kinder of Danville, Pa.;
One Son,
Mr. Raymond J. Kinder and his wife Jennifer of Tamaqua, Pa.;
One Brother,
Joseph E. Kinder and his wife Jane of Douglasville, Pa.;
Five Grandchildren;
Nieces and Nephews.
Arrangements are being handled by E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home, Inc., 655 East Broad Street Tamaqua, Pa., where the family will receive friends, Monday, May 12, 2008 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, and Tuesday May 13, 2008 from 8:45 AM to 9:30 AM.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Jerome's R.C.C. at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, May 13, 2008.
Interment in the Parish cemetery, graveside military honors.
