Raymond R. Essington, husband, father, and grandfather, age 86, of Washington Street Tamaqua, died Tuesday, November 6, 2012, at home while in the care and comfort of his family.
Survived by his wife of sixty-five years, A. Ruth (Dietrich) Essington.
A 1944 Tamaqua High School graduate, Ray had worked for the Reading Railroad, and then for Textile Machine Works of Reading.
He was an active member of Trinity U.C.C. of Tamaqua,served as a Deacon & Elder of the consistory, was a member of the church building committee,the Men's Brotherhood, and worked for many years in the kitchen.
Trinity U.C.C., bestowed upon Ray the designation of Elder Emeritus in 2001.
A 32nd Degree Mason, he was a member of the Caldwell Consistory Bloomsburg. Ray has been a member of the Tamaqua Masons, F. & A.M. 238, for over 62 years.
Both Ray and his wife, were intregal parts in the day to day activities of the North & Middle Ward Playground Assoc. for many years.
Born in Tamaqua, he was the son of the late George W. and Lottie (Whetstone) Essington.
He is also survived by;
Two Sons,
Raymond Essington and his wife Dr. Beth Essington of Sudbury, Mass.,
Joel R. Essington and his wife Kathleen Schock of Tamaqua;
One Sister,
Mrs. Betty (Essington) Boettger wife of Earl of Tamaqua;
Two grandchildren, Joel and Andrew.
Preceded in death by a son in 1954, Donald Scott Essington; brothers, George and William Essington; half sister, Mrs. Grace (Gilfert) Martin, and five half brothers.
Arrangements are being handled by E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home, Inc., 655 East Broad Street Tamaqua, Pa., where the family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, November 9, 2012. Masonic Services 7:30 P.M.
Friends shall also be received from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM Saturday, November 10, 2012, at Trinity U.C.C. 22 Lafayette St. Tamaqua, Pa.
Funeral service will be at Trinity U.C.C. at 11:00 AM Saturday, November 10, 2012, Rev. Thomas H. Reinsel to officiate.
Interment will be at White Church Cemetery of Barnesville, Pa.
