Raymond A. Conageski

Mr. Raymond A. Conageski, age 80, of Tamaqua, Pa., died Thursday, February 2, 2006, at St. Lukes Miners Memorial Medical Ctr. in Coaldale, Pa.

Mr. Conageski was employed by Allentown Morning Call for 35 yrs as night News Staff Manager of the Lehighton Office from 1975 until his retirement in 1985, while beginning his tenure as a reporter and Photographer in Tamaqua and Lansford. A member of SS. Peter & Paul R.C.C. Tamaqua, 1943 Tamaqua High School Grad. Entered the Navy two weeks after graduation serving as a Radioman on PT Boats in the S. Pacific and Mediteranian Theaters. Upon completion of his war time commitment he obtained a B.A. degree in Journalism from the University of San Francisco were he played football under coach Joe Kuharcik who went on to Coach the Philadelphia Eagles & Detroit Lions, and was a teammate of the late Allie Matson who played professionally with the Chicago Cardinals and L.A Rams, Gino Marchetti of the Baltimore Colts, and Burl Toweler whom entered the Professional Football Hall of Fame as the first Negro Referee. A class mate and lifetime friend Commissioner Pete Rozelle of the N.F.L.

Named to the North East Sports Hall of Fame and Carbon CountySports Hall of Fame 1996

Memberships included Club 30 of the Allentown Morning Call, P.T. Boats Inc. Germantown TN,Navy Club of the USA, Sampson WWII Navy Vet Inc.,

He was the son of the late Albert Conageski and the late Ann (Sakusky) Conageski-Ruslavage.

He is also survived by his wife of 56 yrs. Mrs. Catharine (Donohue) Conageski;

One Daughter,
Daughter-Miss Kay Conageski of Plantation, Fla.

One Son,
Son-Mr. Raymond H. Conageski & wife Ann of Vienna, W. Va.

Three grandchildren

Preceeded in death by a brother Eugen who died in WWII

Arrangements are being handled by E. Franklin Griffiths & Robert C. Reeser Funeral Home, Inc., 655 East Broad Street Tamaqua, Pa., Tamaqua, Pa.. Memorial Mass will be at SS. Peter & Paul R.C.C. at Feb 6, 2006 at 2 o'clock PM with the Rev. William Linkchorst
officiating.

Interment will be at Odd Fellows Cemetery in TAmaqua, Pa.
