Peter J. Karnish, age 79, of Holland Ave. Tamaqua, died Monday, July 25, 2011, in Tamaqua.

A 1950 Summit Hill High School graduate, Peter served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

Peter, worked as a Quality Control Inspector for the Defense Industry, last working for IMC Corp. of Hauppauge, NY., until they closed.

At the age of 62, he followed his life long love of music and graduated from Five Towns College of Music in Dix Hills Long Island with a degree in Musical Instrument repair. Peter and his wife returned to Pennsylvania opening his own musical repair business.

A longtime Keyboardist who wa a dance-band musician during the '50s. Peter was a Master Accordian player, having played with The Frank Wojnarowski Polka Band, which sold enough records to earn a Gold Record. Peter, played all kinds of music, and preformed professionally until his return to Pennsylvania

A professional arranger, he compossed for The Jimmy Sturr Band, The Crusade, Pennsylvania Villagers, and Mistro Men.

Peter was a member of SS. Peter & Paul R.C.C. of Tamaqua.

Born in Andrewsville, he was the son of the late Peter Karnish, Sr. and the late Josephine (Ogorzalek) Karnish.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Victoria "Vickey" (Lemonovich) Karnish;

One Sister,
Marie Gallagher wife of Vincent of Lansford;

One Brother,
Joseph Karnish of Tamaqua;

Preceded in death by his brothers, John, and Francis; sister, Mrs. Florence Oakes.

Arrangements are being handled by E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home, Inc., 655 East Broad Street Tamaqua, Pa., where the family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday, July 27, 2011 and from 8:45 A.M. to 9:30 A.M. Thursday, July 28, 2011.

Evening Prayers Wed., at 7:00 P.M.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at SS. Peter & Paul R.C.C. , 307 Pine Street Tamaqua, at 10 o'clock A.M. Thursday, July 28, 2011, Rev. William Linkchorst to officiate.

Interment with Military Honors, will be at Sky View Memorial Park in Tamaqua.
