Pauline Lizzie Steigerwalt

December 28, 1931 — November 3, 2024

Pauline Lizzie (Oswald) Steigerwalt, 92, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, of Ben Salem Road, Andreas, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, November 3, 2024 while in the tender care of her four children.

Born Monday, December 28, 1931 in New Ringgold, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Helen (Zettlemoyer) Oswald. She was the widow of Amandus (Junior) C. Steigerwalt who she married on July 7, 1951. In addition, she was predeceased by her twin brother, Paul Oswald, and her sister, Grace Roth.

She is survived by daughters Judy L. Mantz, wife of David, and Janet L. Raub, and sons Brian L. and his wife, Ann Marie Oblas, all of Andreas, and Barry C., and his wife Cora, of Pittsburgh; Grandchildren Earlene, Gregory, Matthew, Elisabeth, Nicholas, Alex, and Emily; and great-grandchildren Mackenzie, Madeline, Autumn, Oliver, and Margaret, all who affectionately called her Grammy.

A 1949 Tamaqua High School graduate, Pauline worked at Atlas Powder Co. in Clamtown for 9 years. She and her husband co-owned M & S Hardware store in Tamaqua for over 30 years, retiring in 1993. She was an active member of Zion Stone Church in New Ringgold and she drew great strength from her faith.

Pauline and Junior enjoyed many activities including camping, motorcycling, and traveling the world. They were proud that their love of travel transcended to their children and grandchildren. Pauline’s most meaningful trip was her pilgrimage to the Holy Land which affirmed her personal religious convictions. She loved spending time with her grandchildren playing countless games of cards, Connect 4, and especially Yahtzee. In her home, the candy bowl was never empty and “Grammy’s guys loved her cookies and pies!”

Over the last few months, Pauline spoke about how blessed she was for having the friendships of so many people, having taken many adventures, and much laughter, but her greatest blessing was the love of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and grand dogs who were always constants in her life and home. She reflected on how very much she missed her husband of 70 years since his passing in October 2021, and was ready to be reunited with him. Her family is comforted in knowing that they are strolling hand-in-hand in heaven.
