Norwood Verlin Koch

Norwood V. Koch, husband, father, and Pap, age 83, of Municipal Road, New Ringgold, died Saturday, May 18, 2013, at Schuylkill Medical Center East in Pottsville.

Survived by his wife of 61 years June (Steigerwalt) Koch.

A 1948 Tamaqua High School graduate, Norwood was an active member of the Zion's United Methodist Church of New Ringgold, having served as Caretaker, Church Treasurer, Trustee, and Sunday School Treasurer.

Civicly active in the Borough of New Ringgold for many years, Norwood was Auditor, served as Mayor for seven years, and Treasurer for thirty-three years.

He was a member of the Southern Schuylkill Council of Government for fourteen years, and Secretary of the Community Christian Youth Center.

Norwood worked for Loch Brothers hauling milk from farmers to Lehigh Valley Dairy until taking a job at Morrisons Motor Company in Orwigsburg in 1956 where he worked until 1974. In September of 1974, Norwood began to drive bus for the Blue Mountain School district working there for seventeen years.

Norwood was a life member of the New Ringgold Community Fire Company, and Little Schuylkill Lions Club.

Born in Lewistown Valley, he was the son of the late Atwood and Mollie (Ketner) Koch.

He is also survived by his:

Diane E. (Koch) Cunningham wife of Glenn of New Ringgold;

Aletha (Koch) Heinbaugh wife of Kenneth of Summit Station;

Brother,
Verle Koch and his wife Helen of New Ringgold;

Seven grandchildren, Meghan, Justin, Kristen, Kyle, Matthew, Brandon, and Cory;

Preceded in death by his infant sister, June Koch; brother, Floyd Koch.

Arrangements are being handled by Robert S. Nester Funeral Home, Inc., 2066 West Penn Pike, New Ringgold, Pa., where the family will receive friends from 9:00 to 11:00 AM Friday, May 24, 2013.

Funeral service will be at 11 o'clock A.m. Friday May 24, 2013, from the Robert S. Nester F.H., Inc., Rev. James Fryer to officiate.

Interment will be at Drehersville Evangelical Cemetery, East Brunswick, Twp.

Memorials in his name to Zion's United Methodist Church, in care of Gary Frantz, Box 76, Royer Street New Ringgold, Pa. 17960.
