Myrtle Beulah

December 20, 1917 — November 26, 2016

Myrtle Beulah “Grammy” Reed, aged 98, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, formerly of Andreas and Walnutport, passed away peacefully at her residence in East Stroudsburg, PA on Saturday, November 26, 2016.

Widow of Walter E. Reed, she is survived by her daughters: Luella L. Sebo, and husband, Luke, of East Stroudsburg; Julia A. Yerger, and husband, Dr. William, of Bethlehem; sisters: Eleanor Wittig of Tamaqua and Velma Walck-Snyder of Allentown; grandchildren: Cindy Sebo, wife of Miles Hunter; Sherry Sebo; Sally Sebo; and Sandra Sebo, wife of Rocco Loiudice; Kelly, wife of Andrew Hornak; and Jennifer Yerger; Rebecca, wife of Shane Remp; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Born December 20, 1917 and raised in Normal Square, daughter of the late Raymond O. and Beulah M. (née Wehr) Haas, Myrtle attended Carbon County public schools and Allentown Bible Institute. An industrious farm girl, she enjoyed working in her garden and crocheting gift afghans. A dedicated Christian homemaker, Myrtle was a member and class leader of the former Evangelical United Brethren Church of Andreas, and enjoyed fellowship at other churches and camp meetings. She was also an avid reader and accomplished musician, who loved playing the piano, organ, and accordion. Myrtle was the “hands and feet of Jesus,” a true biblical Dorcas, distributing food and clothing to the poor and needy, and for many years conducted Bible Club meetings for children and teens. Her exemplary Christian life was evident to those who knew her. She will be sadly missed.

In addition to her husband and parents, Myrtle was predeceased by sons, Cleo W. and Ernest W. Reed; sisters, Ms. Lelah Haas and Mrs. Mary Grow; and brother, Raymond Haas.
