Milton Hoffman, of Stagecoach Road Weatherly, Pa., died Tuesday, December 8, 2009, at the home of his son Doug, Sr., surrounded by all his children. Prior to a recent illness, he lived with his daughter, Nita, at the family homestead.
Born July 20, 1920, in Buck Mountain, he was the seventh son of the late William H. and Ethel (Benjamin) Hoffman, who had 17 children.
He was a member of the Slocum Seventh-day Adventist Church, a member of Penn Haven Gun Club, and because of his Native American heritage, was affiliated with the Eastern Delaware Nations.
Before retiring, he worked for the Central Railroad of New Jersey; also, as a fish warden, a laborer in his brother's business, and finally, as a self-employed handyman. He was a lifelong, avid outdoorsman, who was also known for his hunting and trapping skills.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, was his wife of 53 years, Belva (Fairchild), and siblings: Noreen Koberstein, William C., Harold Sr., Eva, Wilfred, Leona Baade Myers, Earl Sr., Willard, Virginia Fairchild, Roland Sr., Russell, Gordon, and a sister and brother who died at birth.
Surviving are children Nita Hoffman of Weatherly, Kip of Weatherly, Fern Regan of Longmont, Colorado, Doug Sr. of Weatherly, Wanda "Dee" Corbin of Winfield, Pa., and Vicki Winters of Weatherly; seven grandchildren and eight great- grandchildren.
He is also survived by a brother, Allen Sr. of Hazleton, and one sister, Geneva Funk of Langhorne and numerous nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are being handled by Philip J. Jeffries Funeral Home, 211 First Street, Weatherly, Pa., Philip J. Jeffries F.D./Sup., where the family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday, December 10, 2009 and from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Friday, December 11, 2009.
Funeral service will be at Philip J. Jeffries Funeral Home at 11:00 AM Friday, December 11, 2009, Pastor Troy Haagenson officiating.
Interment will be at Union Cemetery of Weatherly.
