Maurice O. "Marty" Kunkel
October 18, 1927 — March 7, 2018
Maurice O. "Marty" Kunkel of 318 Third Street Weatherly, Pennsylvania passed away on Wednesday March 7, 2018 at St. Luke's Hospital Lehighton Campus at the age of 90.
Survived by his beloved wife of sixty-seven years Beverly Jayne (Kocher) Kunkel; daughter, Melanie Zeigler wife of Joseph; son, Mark Kunkel and his wife Donna both of Weatherly; grandchildren, Brandon Zeigler, Kyle Kunkel and his wife Lynzee, and Dr., Ashlee Wood wife of Joseph; great grandson, Bryce Kunkel.
A 1945 graduate of Weatherly High School, Marty served honorably in the United States Navy during WWII. Returning home to Weatherly he owned Kunkel's Lumber Yard of Weatherly for many years, and was a builder and contractor in the surrounding area.
Lutheran by faith, Marty belonged to the Weatherly American Legion, Weatherly Senior Citizens, and was affiliated with Citizens Fire Company #1 of Weatherly. He was an outdoorsman and animal lover enjoying the company of his families dogs Abbey, Bentley, Zoe, Maddie, Lyle, and Lola. Marty and Bev traveled extensively.
Born in Weatherly on October 18, 1927 the son of the late Maurice "Yut", and Miriam "Mim" R. (Roberts) Kunkel. He was also predeceased by; brother, Clyde Kunkel; grandchildren Kristy Kunkel, and Kayla Kunkel.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Philip J. Jeffries Funeral Home & Cremation Services of 211 First Street Weatherly, Pennsylvania 18255. (570) 427-4231
A Funeral services will be held from the funeral home on Tuesday March 13, 2018 at 11 o'clock A.M. Friends may call on Monday evening March 12, 2018 from 6 to 8:00 P.M. and on the morning of services from 10:00 A.M. until time of services. Rev. Robert VonFrisch to officiate.
Interment with Military Honors Union Cemetery, Weatherly, Pennsylvania.
