Matthew M. Bynon, age 39, of North Lehigh Street Tamaqua, died Wednesday, September 12, 2012, at home having fought a courageous battle against cancer, surrounded by his family, and friends.

A 1991 Tamaqua High School graduate, Matt enlisted in the United States Navy, serving on the U.S.S. West Virginia as a cook. After serving his country, Matt, attended Lackawanna Police Academy in Hazleton.

Matthew was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tamaqua. He was a great cook, and a Philadelphia Eagles fan.

Survived by his wife of nine years, Sherry M. (Edmondson) Bynon.

Matt worked as a Police Officer for, Kline, Rush, and Ryan Townships, before accepting a position with the Borough of Tamaqua where he served from 2008 thru 2011.

Devoted to his community, Matt was a member of the F.O.P., American Hose Fire Company, Past Captain, and Director of the Tamaqua Rescue Squad, and member of the Tamaqua American Legion. He supported all communtiy service organizations.

Born in Lehighton, he was the son of James and Marsha (Valentine) Bynon of Tamaqua.

Alexis Higgins;

Two Sons,
Connor Evans,
Zane Bynon;

Two Brothers,
James J. Bynon, II and his companion Lisa Marton,
Michael R. Bynon and his companion April Card;

Maternal grandparents, James, and Kathleen Valentine, all of Tamaqua;

Many Aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins;

Preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Virginia O. Bynon; uncle, Willliam Bynon; cousin, Billy Bynon.

Arrangements are being handled by E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home, Inc., 655 East Broad Street Tamaqua, Pa., where the family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Sunday, September 16, 2012 and from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Monday, September 17, 2012.

Funeral service will be at E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home, Inc. at 11:00 AM Monday, September 17, 2012, Rev. Jeffrey Kistler to officiate.

Interment with Military Honors will be at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Tamaqua.
