Mrs. Mary Alice (Sassaman) Brimmer, age 83, West Abbott Street Lansford, died Wednesday, November 30, 2011, at Hometown Nursing Home in Tamaqua.
A 1946 Lansford High School graduate, Mary Alice received her R.N. from Temple University School of Nursing, Philadelphia.
Having worked at the former Coaldale State Hospital as a surgical nurse, she went into private duty nursing while raising her family, and also worked for the Panther Valley Visiting Nurse Association.
A longtime member of the former English Congregational Church of Lansford, she served as President of the Women's Missonary Society, and served on the Board of Trustees, while singing in the choir.
Mary Alice was a member of the First Congregational Church of Coaldale, and was active civically, serving on the restoration committee of the Welsh Church of Lansford.
She was a member of the Panther Valley Golden Agers, and was also a member of the Gnaden Huetten Chapter #203 of the Eastern Star.
Born in Lansford, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Dorothy (Bolles) Sassaman.
She is survived by her husband of sixty years, George "Bucky" W. Brimmer, Jr.; Two Daughters,
Meryl A. (Brimmer) Hodon of Coaldale,
Gwyneth A. (Brimmer) Collevechio and, son-in-law Kevin of Lansford;
One Son,
George W. Brimmer, III and his fiancee Liz Wilson of Coaldale;
One Brother,
George B. Sassaman and his wife Carmela of Lansford;
Five grandchildren, Sara Hodon, Allison Fredericks, Brittany Collevechio, Morgan Brimmer, and George W. Brimmer, IV.
Niece, Renee (Sassaman) Mantz of Kutztown
Arrangements are being handled by Holmes - Griffiths F.H., Inc. 655 East Broad Street Tamaqua, Pa.
Friends will be received from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, December 2, 2011 at the Holmes - Griffiths Funeral Home, Inc. , and Sat. December 3, 2011 from First Congregational U.C.C. of Ruddle St. Coaldale, Pa., from 11:30 AM until time of service.
Funeral Service will be at First Congregational Church of Coaldale at 12:30 P.M.Saturday, December 3,2011, Rev., Dr. Wayne E. Benack to officiate.
Interment will be at Grand Army in Summit Hill.
