Major Theodore "Ted" Novy, age 92, formerly of E. Broad St., Tamaqua, died Tuesday, October 18, 2011, at Mahoning Valley Nursing Home in Lehighton.
Born in McAdoo, he was the son of the late Peter and Ella (Tihansky) Novy.
He was a 1936 graduate of McAdoo High School.
He was a Field Supervisor for Olin Corporation whose work took him all over the United States and some foreign countries.
Ted was a past commander of the Tamaqua V.F.W. and was a member of the American Legion and the East End Fire Co.
He was a B17 Bomber Pilot during WWII flying 35 combat missions over Germany. Among his Decorations are the ETO Ribbon with 2 Battle Stars (Northern France and Rhineland) and seven Air Medals.
After WWII, he commanded the local National Guard unit until being transferred to group headquarters from where he retired.

Four great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his wife on 11-23-2001, Ida Gladys Novy; son, Theodore Novy; brother, Wassil; sister, Helen Casper.
Arrangements are being handled by E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home, Inc., 655 East Broad Street Tamaqua, Pa., where the family will receive friends on Saturday, October 22, 2011 from 9:30-11:00 AM.
Funeral Service will be on Saturday, October 22, 2011 at 11 o'clock AM at the E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home., Reverend Marjorie Keiter officiating.
Interment with military honors at Sky View Memorial Park, Tamaqua.
