Lewis H. Erbe

Former eight term Tamaqua Councilman, Lewis H Erbe, of West Broad St., Tamaqua, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, February 28, 2018, at Country Meadows of Lancaster at the age of 88.
Preceded in death by his wife, Dolores A. "Boots" (Marcin) Erbe on June 16, 2016, he is survived by; Son, Lewis M Erbe and fiancée Deborah Williams of Rising Sun, MD; daughters, Lewann Neifert wife of Bruce of Canton, Susan L Schlosser wife of Bob of Elizabethtown, Lore McLaughlin wife of John of Andreas, Mary Lou Portz wife of the late John "Jocko" of Elizabethtown, Lisa M Gerber wife of Robert, Tamaqua, Karen L Bankler wife of Barry of Lancaster; Nineteen Grandchildren; Fifteen Great-Grandchildren.
Lewis was a 1947 Tamaqua Area High School graduate, and served honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War. Returning home Lewis went to work at the Former Atlas Powder Company where he worked in the Labs until his retirement.
He was a lifetime member of the American Hose Company, and served 8 terms or 32 years on the Tamaqua Borough Council having also served as president. He was a member of the Tamaqua Legion and he was on the Tamaqua Library Board. Lewis was a life long member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tamaqua.
Born in Tamaqua on May 10, 1929, he was the son of the late Walter and Sarah (Lorah) Erbe. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by; brothers, Walter, James and Clarence Erbe; sisters, Anna Mulholland and Sara Doris; daughter-in-law Tana (Boyer) Erbe.
Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to the E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 655 East Broad Street Tamaqua, Pa. (570) 668-2550
The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 3, 2018 from 9:30 to 11:00AM.
Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 11 o'clock AM at the funeral home, Reverend Cindy White to officiate.
Interment with Military Honors will be at St Jerome R.C.C. Cemetery Tamaqua, Pennsylvania.
