Leonard T. Patrick

Mr. Leonard T. Patrick, age 91, of Tamaqua, Pa., passed away Monday, October 19, 2009, in Pottsville Pa., surrounded by his family. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, who will be deeply missed.

Leonard served our country during WWII, in the Army Air Corp, as a member of the 428th bomber group. As a flight engineer on a B24 bomber stationed in Cerignola, Italy, he flew 35 missions all over Europe. Leonard was awarded the Air Medal, Oak Leaf Clusters, American Defense Service Medal Distinguished Unit Badge, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, and Good conduct Medal.

He worked in the family Coal business until it's closure, and then began his career as a pioneering Christmas Tree farmer starting his business based in Owl Creek in the 1940's.

A member of SS. Peter & Paul R.C.C. of Tamaqua, he was the oldest member of the Tamaqua American Legion, and Lifelong member of the South Ward Fire Company of Tamaqua. Len was a Charter Member of the WWII Memorial in Washington D.C.

An avid reader, traveler, hunter, who loved the outdoors, Leonard read and studied the Civil War era.

Born in Tamaqua, he was the son of the late Leon and Priscilla (Peel) Patrick.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Agnes (Pogera) Patrick;

One Daughter,
Carla (Patrick) Niedert wife of Duane of Lake Hauto, Nesquehoning;

One Son,
Raymond J. Patrick of Owl Creek Tamaqua;

One Brother,
Edward Patrick and his wife Jacque of Tamaqua;

Sister-in-laws, Helen Patrick of South Tamaqua, and Teresa M. Pogera of New York;

Grandchildren, Patrick and Carly Niedert;

Many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his infant daughter, Monica; sister, Anna; and brother Albert.

Arrangements are being handled by E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home, Inc., 655 East Broad Street Tamaqua, Pa.,where the family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday, October 22, 2009.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at SS Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Church 307 Pine Street Tamaqua, Pa. 18252 at 10:00 AM Friday, October 23, 2009, Rev. William Linkchorst officiating.

Interment with Military Honors, will be at SS Peter & Paul R.C.C. Cemetery Owl Creek.
