Kirk Douglas "Doug" Sims, husband, father, pop-pop, of Birch Road Hazle Twp. passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 13, 2018, at home at the age of 68. Survived by his beloved wife, Jane (Mechinus) Sims, sons David Sims and his wife Megan of Frederick, MD, Michael Sims and his wife Paloma of Dallas, TX, daughter Stacey Natt and her husband John of Drums, son Matthew Sims, daughter Ashley Sims of Easton and grandchildren, Gavin, Alivia, and Ava. A graduate of Weatherly High School, Doug retired from the United States Post office in December of 2017 having worked for 33 years as a carrier. Doug was a Marine Corp veteran who served honorably during the Vietnam War. Upon his discharge, Doug enlisted in the Army National Guard Hazleton battalion and served for many years. Doug again served his country after 9/11, deployed to Germany for eight months. An avid outdoorsman, Doug enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a P.I.A.A. softball and baseball umpire for many years. Doug enjoyed bowling and was affiliated with the Community Bible Fellowship Church of Greater Hazleton. Born Wednesday, April 5, 1950 in Alexandria, VA, the son of the late Marvin Sims and Yvonne (Andrews) Sims-Ferguson. Doug was also predeceased by daughter Chelsea Katelyn Sims on November 17, 2009, brother Todd Sims and step father Henry H. Ferguson. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Philip J. Friends may call on Friday, November 16, 2018 at the funeral home from 5 to 7:00 P.M. Interment with Military Honors will be held at Union Cemetery, Weatherly, Pennsylvania.
