Karen E. Phillips - Macenka, R,N., and Educator, of East Water Street Lansford, Pennsylvania passed away on Saturday, May 28, 2022, at Lehigh Valley Hospital Salisbury Twp. from injuries sustained due to a fall at work. She was 55 years of age.
Born Saturday, March 11, 1967 in Key West, Florida the daughter of the late David Windsor Spence, and Roberta E. (Herbacek) Spence of Lansford. Karen was also predeceased by; her beloved son, Todd David Phillips; brother, Ernest Spence.
Surviving in addition to her mother are; husband, Paul J. Macenka; daughter, Shannon Alexa Phillips and her fiance Cody McGuinness of Pittsburgh; sisters, Renae Rickert wife of James of Lansford, Lynda Carlson of Lansford, Beverly Morieko of Chambersburg, Kathy Gienic wife of James of Summit Hill; father-in-law Paul Macenka; sister-in-law, Mary Hertzog and her husband Rick. Many nieces and nephews also survive Karen.
A 1985 graduate of Panther Valley High School, Karen earned her R.N. from the Allentown School of Nursing class of 1988, and matriculated to Temple University where she was awarded her B.S.N. and Masters of Education degree. Karen worked as a critical care nurse for the Lehigh Valley Hospital system before pursuing her passion of teaching. Karen was currently employed by the Schuylkill Technology Center teaching Health Careers for the last 17 years.
A member of St. Joseph's R.C.C. of Summit Hill, Karen enjoyed 4-wheeling, grilling in the backyard, and the companionship of her cat Rika, and grand dog Nella.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 o'clock A.M. on Friday June 3, 2022 from St. Joseph's R.C.C. located at 462 East Ludlow Street Summit Hill, Pennsylvania 18250, Rev. Robert George to officiate. Family, and friends may call on Thursday evening June 2, 2022 from 5:00 P.M. till 7:00 P.M. in church.
Private Interment will be in Grand Army Cemetery, Summit Hill, Pennsylvania.
The family would like to commend and thank the dedicated nurse's, doctors, and staff at Lehigh Valley Hospital Salisbury Twp. for their compassionate, and nurturing care of Karen.
