Karen Harriett Mccarthy

Karen Harriett McCarthy, 63 years of age of Nesquehoning, Pennsylvania died on Thursday, February 28, 2019, at Blue Mountain Health Systems - Gnaden Huetten Campus, Lehighton, Pennsylvania. Born Monday, June 27, 1955 in Atlanta, Georgia the daughter of the late James Charles and Alma R. Oulette McCarthy she was also preceded in death by her sister, Phyllis Jane Vredeveld. A graduate of San Diego High School, Karen enlisted in the United States Air Force serving her country honorably. Following her discharge from active duty she enlisted in the Air National Guard. Karen earned her R.N. in nursing from the Pottsville School of Nursing. Upon receiving her R.N. Karen transferred to the Army Reserve and was commissioned as an Army nurse. She retired from the Army as a 1st Lieutenant. Karen had worked for the Lehigh Valley Health System for a number of years as a Hospice Nurse in Allentown. Karen enjoyed needle point and was a competitive shooter. Surviving are brother, James McCarthy of El Paso, TX.; companion, Patrick Foley of Jim Thorpe; nephews Gerry McCarthy, Kevin McCarthy, Mark and David Benson; niece, Melissa McCarthy.
