Mr. Joseph M Plasko, age 50, of Tamaqua, died Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Twp.
Joe was Bureau Chief of the Tamaqua Times News.
He was a member of St Jerome RC Church of Tamaqua where he served as lector.
Joe was a 1979 Tamaqua High School graduate and Penn State University graduate with a degree in Journalism and Communications, while at PSU he was a DJ on the college radio station.
He was President of the Tamaqua YMCA, past President, current board member of Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce, Secretary of the Eastern Schuylkill Recreation Commission, YMCA of Reading board member, Tamaqua Sports Hall of Fame Committee member, member of the Tamaqua Lions, Tamaqua Elks & Nittany Lion Club, Secretary of the Tamaqua Area Community Partnership, President Downtown Tamaqua, Panther Valley Little League Tournament Director, 2010 Keystone Press Award winner and guest sportscaster on Radio WMGH.
Born in Chester, Pa., he was the son of the late Joseph A. Plasko and Patricia A. (Kubilus) Plasko of Tamaqua.
He is also survived by his wife Donna Marie (Markovchick) Plasko, they were married 8-23-2008;
one sister,
Tricia M (Plasko) Rocchino of Plymouth Meeting, Pa.
three brothers,
Steven W Plasko and his wife Nicola of Lancaster;
William J Plasko of Florida; and
Michael G Plasko and his wife Susan of New Orleans, LA
nieces and nephews;
in-laws, Paul and Jean Markovchick; grandmother-in-law, Mrs. Mary Sherpinsky , both of Tamaqua.
Arrangements are being handled by E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home, Inc., 655 East Broad Street Tamaqua, Pa., where the family will receive friends on Friday, March 25, 2011 from 6-8PM.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at 10:00AM at St. Jerome R.C. Church, 264 W. Broad St., Tamaqua, Pa., Reverend James C. Bechtel officiating. No morning calling hours.
Interment at St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Summit Hill.
