Joseph F. Delpero 77 yrs of age of Water Street Lansford, Pa., entered into God’s eternal care Sunday February 15, 2009 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Allentwon, Pa. surrounded by his devoted and loving family.
Born in Lansford, he was the son of the late Severino and Maria (Pancheri) Delpero
A 1949 St. Ann’ High School graduate Joe was captain of the school’s basketball team as a senior and played three years of football for Panther Valley Catholic High. Joe served with the second infantry division during the Korean War. He was a 1977 graduate of Alvernia College in Reading, Pa. earning a Bachelor’s of Science in Criminal Justice.
His extraordinary honesty, energy, and hard work, co-mingled with his respect and kindness to his fellow man guided him through a career in Policing that covered 35 years in all with the borough of Lansford, having served 24 years as Chief of Police.
He is a life member of the Northeast Pennsylvania Chief’s of Police Association, having served on it’s executive board for many years.
He is a member of the Carbon-Schuylkill F.O.P. Lodge #13, the Lansford Italian Club, American Fire Company of Lansford, Pa., founding member of the Men of Marian, Lansford American Legion Post #123, and AMVETS of Lansford, Carbon-Schuylkill Industrial Development Corp board, currently serving as President, Carbon County Children and Youth board.
A gardener, Joe was and avid supporter on Marian High School and it’s athletic teams, as well as a cunsumate Notre Dame football fan.
Survived by his best friend and wife of 53 years, Sandra N. (Pforr) Delpero; daughter, Melanie M. wife of John Clause of Tamaqua, Pa; son Joseph G. and his wife Donna L. of Lansford, Pa.; sister Mrs. Delphine Wolynski of Miami Fl.; Two grandchildren,Nancy wife of Jason Gardiner, and Jonathan Clause and his finance Jacci; Three step grandchildren; three great grandchildren, Jocelyn Clause,and Ethan and Adam Gardiner; seven step grandchildren.
A niece,with whom he was raised, Mrs. Olga Rossi wife of Ernest of Lansford, Pa.

Mass of Christian Burial February 17, 2009, Tuesday evening at 7 o’clock P.M. from SS. Peter & Paul R.C.C. 307 Pine street Tamaqua, Pa., Rev. William Linkchorst officiating.
Friends may call Tuesday February 17, 2009 from 4 to 7:00 P.M. in church.
