Joseph A. Boyle

December 13, 1929 — April 29, 2014

Joseph A. Boyle 84 years of age, husband, father, and grandparent of Second Street Coaldale, died Tuesday April 29, 2014 at St. Luke’s Miners Memorial Medical Center, Coaldale.

Survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Julia A. (Hutta) Boyle; daughters, Susan M. Lopata wife of Michael of Nesquehoning, Mary K. Horvath wife of Frank of Summit Hill; sons, Joseph D. Boyle and his wife Mary of Bethlehem, Thomas Boyle and his wife Jane of Tamaqua; eleven grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren.

A 1947 graduate of the former St. Mary’s High School of Coaldale, Joe served honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War.  Returning home he worked for Bethlehem Steel, and then the Former Bundy Tubing of Hometown until there closing.  Joseph retired from the Schuylkill County Housing Authority having worked at the Ridge Terrace Apartments in Coaldale, and the Tamaqua High Rise.

Joseph was an active member of the former St. Mary’s Assumption R.C.C. of Coaldale, having served as usher, and collector. After the Diocesan consolidation he became a member of SS. Peter & Paul R.C.C. of Tamaqua.

While raising his family, Joseph coached Coaldale Little League, and was active in the Boy Scouts.  He was a Third Degree Knight of the Father Henry Baker Knights of Columbus, and member of the Coaldale American Legion.

An avid sports fan he enjoyed watching Notre Dame, the Phillies, and Eagles.  Joseph was a craftsman, he enjoyed reading autobiographies, and keeping up on world events.  Joseph was proud of his fifty year perfect voting record and his fifty year membership in the Coaldale Fire Company.

Born in Coaldale, he is the son of the late Donald, and Grace (O’Gorman) Boyle.

Preceded in death by grand daughter, Tara Mirabella; sisters, Miss Grace Boyle, and Mrs. Mary Dorrian; brother, Mr. Donald Boyle, Jr.

Friends shall be received on Thursday evening May 1, 2014 from 6 to 8:00 P.M., and on Friday from 11:30 A.M. until 12:30 P.M.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 o’clock P.M. from SS. Peter & Paul R.C.C. 307 Pine Street Tamaqua, Pa. 18252, Rev. William Linkchorst to officiate.

Interment with military honors, St. Jerome R.C.C. Cemetery, Tamaqua, Pa.
