John T. Kanyak, husband, father, grandfather, 85 years of age of West Main Street, Weatherly, Pennsylvania passed away on Thursday, November 3, 2016, at Weatherwood Nursing Home in Weatherly.
Survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Elizabeth (Kohut) Kanyak; daughter, Mrs. Karen K. Antolick of Hazleton; sons, Thomas J. Kanyak of Wilkes-Barre, Michael J. Kanyak and his wife Geraldine of Lakeland; 3 grand children; 2 great grand children.
A graduate of Hazleton High School, John earned his degree in education from East Stroudsburg Teachers College, and taught History, Civics, and Drivers Education in the Weatherly School District until his retirement after thirty-five years of service. John also worked the score board as timekeeper for many varsity basketball games.
John served honorably in the United States Navy during the Korean War, and was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes R.C.C. of Weatherly, and American Legion Post #360 of Weatherly. He enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, working in his yard, navigating the computer, and was a member of the Weatherly Lion's Club.
Born Monday, August 31, 1931 in Hazleton, the son of the late John, and Mary (Yazanka) Kanyak. John was also predeceased by sisters, Mrs. Mary Simko, Mrs. Emily Maduro, and Mrs. Anna Kroll; brother Gabriel Kanyak.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday November, 12, 2016 at 10 o'clock A.M. from Our Lady of Lourdes R.C.C. 318 Plane Street Weatherly, Pennsylvania 18255. Friends may call at the church from 9:00 A.M. until time of services.
Interment with Military Honors will at St. Nicholas Cemetery R.C.C. Cemetery of Weatherly, Pennsylvania.
