Jeffrey J Oakes, Sr., age 63, of Andrewsville St., Lansford, died Monday, January 28, 2013, at St Luke's Hospital in Bethlehem, Pa.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence Theresa (Karnish) Oakes, in 2003.
Jeffrey had been employed by the Tamaqua Borough, retiring after 42 years of service.
He was a member of the East End Fire Co., Tamaqua.
Born in Coaldale, he was the son of the late Charles W. Oakes and the late Lucy (Sweeney) Oakes.
He is survived by his
One Daughter,
Jo Ann V Oakes of Tamaqua;
Two Sons,
Jeffrey J Oakes, Jr. and his wife Nicole of Tamaqua and Jonathan P Oakes of Lansford;
Two grandchildren, Julie and J.J.;
Five Brothers,
Kenneth J. of Scotch Plains, NJ; Wayne A. and his wife Jackie of Tuscarora; Arthur J., Emmory G., and Michael A. of Tamaqua;
Two Sisters,
Kathryn (Oakes) Boris of Shenandoah and Marie (Oakes) Quick of Quakake.
Preceded in death by his sisters, Gertrude, Bernadette, and Eleanore Oakes; brothers, Vincent Sweeney, Glyn, Donald and Charles J. Oakes.
Arrangements are being handled by E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home, Inc., 655 East Broad Street Tamaqua, Pa., where the family will receive friends on Thursday, January 31, 2013 from 6-8 PM and on Friday, February 1, 2013 from 8:30-9:30 AM.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, February 1, 2013 at 10 o'clock AM at SS. Peter & Paul R.C.C. 307 Pine St., Tamaqua, PA, Rev. William Linkchorst to officiate.
Interment at SS. Peter & Paul R.C.C.C., Summit Hill, Pa.
