James J. Ward, father, grandfather and great grandfather, 99 years of age of Tamaqua, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at St. Luke's Miners Memorial in Coaldale, Pennsylvania.
Widower of Rosemary (Johnson) Ward who passed away on October 16, 1994, he is survived by; sons, Rev. James J. Ward of Jim Thorpe, Joseph J. Ward and his wife Jean of Coaldale and Thomas J. Ward and his wife Ruth of Tamaqua; daughter, Mrs. Susan Schlosser wife of Ted of Tamaqua; 7 grand children; 12 great grandchildren; and his companion of fourteen years, Mrs. Mildred Yencha of Coaldale.
A 1936 graduate of the former St. Mary's High School of Coaldale, James served his country honorably in the United States Army Air Corp during WWII. During James's tour of duty, his plane was shot down and he was captured behind enemy lines and was a P.O. W. for nine months.
A member of St. John XXIII R.C.C. of Tamaqua, he belonged to the Father Henry Baker Knights of Columbus Council 2711. James was also affiliated with the Tamaqua Legion, and Tamaqua Elks.
James worked for Tamaqua Auto Parts, K&K Auto and as an Insurance Agent for Home Life Insurance Company.
Born Tuesday, March 12, 1918 in Coaldale, Pennsylvania. the son of the late John, and Kathryn (Fay) Ward. He was also predeceased by sisters, Mrs. Kathleen Boyle, and Mrs. Jean Burns; brother, Joseph Ward..

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday May 26, 2017 from St. John XXIII R.C.C. 265 West Broad Street Tamaqua, Pennsylvania at 1 o'clock P.M.
Friends shall be received on Thursday evening May 25, 2017 from 6 to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
No calling hours on Friday.
Interment with Military Honors will be conducted at St. Jerome's R.C. Cemetery, Tamaqua, Pennsylvania.
