Mr. James R. Bowe, Esq., age 80, of Holland Ave., Tamaqua, Pa., died Friday, January 23, 2009, at Hometown Nursing & Rehabilitation Ctr., Tamaqua, Pa.
James attended the Frackville High School from which he graduated in 1946. He continued his education at American University obtaining a Bachlor of Science degree in business administration in 1950. From 1951 to 1953 he served our country in the United States Army attached to the 1st Division during the Korean Conflict. Upon receiving his honorable discharge from the Army, he attended Dickson School of Law in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, graduating in1956.
James began his career as an attorney in Schuylkill County by joining the firm of Burke, Doblin and Heffner. On May 12, 1958 he was admitted as a member of the Schuylkill County Bar upon the motion of his brother, the honorable Guy A. Bowe, Jr. He left the firm in the early 1960's and engaged in the private practice of law as a solo practitioner in Tamaqua. Finally, in 1979, he created the law firm of Bowe, Lisella and Bowe and served the firm as the managing partner from 1979 until his retirement in 2000.
In addition to engaging in the practice of law, James was the original founding secretary of the Tamaqua Industrial Development Enterprise, a member of the First United Methodist Church of Tamaqua, the Tamaqua Lions and Tamaqua Chamber of Commerce. He also served as the Tamaqua chairman for the Schuylkill County Society for Crippled Children.
For many years during his career as an attorney he was an advisory Board member of the former Pennsylvania National Bank.
Born in Frackville, he was the son of Guy A. Bowe, Sr. and the late Lottie (Withers) Bowe.
He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Mrs. Georgene (Morgan) Bowe;

Mr. Bryan M. Bowe of Chelmsford, Mass.;
One Brother,
Dr. Edwin "Ted" E. Bowe and his wife, Mary, of Columbia, S.C.
Preceded in death by his brother, the Honorable Guy A. Bowe, Jr., and a sister Mrs. Mary Thomas
