James D. "Jim" Benner, 71, of Hometown, PA, passed away on Friday, July 15, 2016 at St. Luke’s Miners Memorial Hospital, Coaldale. Born Thursday, October 26, 1944, the son of the late Carl A. and Theta M. (Sheets) Benner, Jim was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Elise B. Benner.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ruth Anne (Kuyrkendall) Benner; daughter Melinda Worthington and her husband Christopher of Bentonville, AR; sons Terry A. Benner and his wife Dawna of Essex Junction, VT; Timothy S. Benner and his wife Christine of Orwigsburg; Brian J. Benner and his wife Allison S. Veser of Columbus, OH; Jason A. Benner and his fiancée Angela Kalchick of Tamaqua; brother Richard Benner of Goodland, IN; sisters Dorothy Scearcy of Valparaiso, IN, Billie Butte of Somerset, KY; grandchildren Clary, Camryn, Abagail, Taylor, Morgan, Levi, Nathaniel, Eric and Benjamin.
Jim was a 1962 graduate of Goodland High School, Goodland, IN. He earned his Associate B.S.C degree from International School of Professional Accounting, Ft. Wayne, IN. He worked at Sealy Spring Corp for 25 years in many roles including plant manager in Delano, PA. Jim opened and was plant manager for the International Bedding Corp in Mahanoy City before starting Benner Financial and being financial controller at Rottet Motors.
Jim was a member of Hope of Christ Presbyterian Church as well as the treasurer and ordained elder. He served as the treasurer of the Winnie the Pooh pre-school in Hope of Christ church. Jim was also a member of the Tamaqua Rotary Club, Manufacturers Association of Schuylkill County, Tamaqua school board and treasurer of the Tamaqua Area Adult Day Care Center. He loved to golf and bowl, and especially enjoyed spending time with his family and spoiling his grandchildren. Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who will be sadly missed.

A Funeral Service will be held at 7 o’clock PM Wednesday July 20, 2016 from the funeral home with Pastor Kari Olson & Pastor Leon Morgan officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on the evening of July 20th from 5 to 7 PM.
