Irene Markovich 91 years of age of Fairfax, Va. passed away on Friday August 9, 2024.
Born in Coaldale, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late John, and Elizabeth (Smalley) Markovich. Irene was also predeceased by her brother, James Markovich.
Irene graduated from Lansford High School in 1950, and joined the CIA in October of 1950 as a clerk typist. During her career she served 2 tours of duty in Germany and progressed through the professional ranks as a branch chief and the as a division chief. Irene retired in January 1986 as Chief of Policy Programs.
After retirement, Irene volunteered briefly at the Patrick Henry Library in Vienna, VA until taking part-time employment in October of 1986 with Northwest Credit Union as a personnel assistant. She served as a volunteer secretary for the St. Gregory of Nyssa Byzantine Catholic Church for 17 years and subsequently volunteered in many of the activities at Epiphany of Our Lord Byzantine Catholic Church of Annandale, Va. Friends, colleagues and neighbors will remember her as caring, compassionate, and hard-working person willing to help other when she could.
Irene is survived by; three nephews, Bruce Markovich of Lansford, Jeffrey Markovich and his wife Michelle of Summit Hill, Kenneth Markovich of Pottsville; 7 great nieces; 1 great nephew; 2 great great nieces; 1 great great nephew.

Panachida Services will be held on Monday August 19, 2024 at 1 o'clock P.M. from the funeral home, Father Scott Boghossian to officiate. Friends may call from noon until the time of services.
Interment in St. John The Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church Cemetery Summit Hill, Pennsylvania.
