Howard F. Miller, father, and grandfather age 74 of Tamaqua, died Saturday, October 6, 2012 at St. Luke's Bethlehem, surrounded by his family, after a courageous fight against cancer.
Widower of Donna Lee (Semko) Miller, who died on Dec. 24, 2008.
A Tamaqua High School graduate class of 1955, Howie entered the United States Marines at 17 years of age upon graduation.
Satisfying his service to his country, he returned home graduating from Goldie Beacon Business School in Wilmington, DE. with an Associates in Accounting and Business Administration.
Howie had owned North Central Development Corp., which was responsible for introducing high rise development for low to middle income residents in the Coal Regions of Pennsylvania. His first two builds were in Shamokin and Tamaqua. He later would become the property manager of these and other properties. Recently he operated Omini Capital Ventures.
An active member of the First United Methodist Church of Tamaqua, Howie was formative in establishing the Tamaqua Knee- Hi Football program. He was a longtime President of the Tamaqua Y.M.C.A., a member of the Tamaqua Elks, T.P.A. of America Anthracite Chapter, and Past President of the former Mahoning Valley Country Club.
An avid golfer, Howie was a proud supporter of all Coal Region High School sports teams, traveling near and far in support of the local teams.
Born in Palmerton, he was the son of the late Claude E. and Mabel E. (Rieman) Miller.

Edwin S. Miller and his wife Dolores of Mahanoy City;
Affectionately known as Pop, he is the grandfather of Dair, Tucker, and Kendle;
Mother-in-law, E. Jane Semko of Tamaqua;
Preceded in death by a brother,
Russell F. Miller, who died on Nov. 4, 2007
Arrangements are being handled by E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home, Inc., 655 East Broad Street Tamaqua, Pa., where the family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday, October 11, 2012.
Interment with Military Honors will be conducted at Odd Fellows Cemetery Friday morning October 12, 2012 at 10 o'clock A.M.
A Celebration of Life will be at First United Methodist Church at 11 o'clock A.M. Friday, October 12, 2012, 124 West Broad Street Tamaqua, Pa. 18252, Rev. James Cavallero to officiate.
