Helen O. Anderson, age 91, of South Fairview Ave., Montauk, died at Heritage Hill Senior Community in
Weatherly, Pennsylvania, on July 11, 2011.
Born in Queens, New York in 1919 to Mary Ann Smolenska and Leon Olszweski, she married
Henry V. Anderson and moved to Dix Hills, New York where she and Henry raised their family. In 1982, they
retired to Montauk, New York.
For more than forty years, Helen functioned in a management capacity at Hartmann Systems, Dix Hills, NY;
Standard Oil of New Jersey; and the Radio Corporation of America (RCA) and the United Nations, both in New
York City. Henry was a New York City police detective.
Helen was a graduate of Hofstra University with a B.S. in Business Education, and matriculated toward an MBA at
Adelphi University in Garden City, New York. She was a member of Pi Alpha Sigma and Alpha Sigma Lambda
national honor societies. She was an instructor at Suffolk County Community College.
In 1984, she founded Surf Realty, Inc., at Montauk Airport. She was a member of the Montauk Village
Association, Concerned Citizens of Montauk, Friends of Montauk Library, and St. Therese of Lisieux Roman
Catholic Church in Montauk. She had also been a volunteer literacy teacher at the Montauk Library. Helen was
an avid writer, was a member of the Montauk Writes writing club, and had articles published in various local
newspapers.
Surviving are her three children, Christopher H. Anderson (wife, Carol) of Boonton Township, New Jersey and
Montauk; Pamela T. Kydes (husband Andy) of Arlington, Virginia; and Denise H. Konopka (husband Robert) of
Lafayette, New Jersey. Helen also leaves five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Henry Victor Anderson in 1994. Helen’s interment will be at the
Calverton National Military Cemetery in Calverton, Long Island, New York, next to Henry, who was a veteran of
WW II.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church on 318
Plane Street, Weatherly, PA.
