Harry Richard "Richie" Arner, 94 years of age, of East Broad Street, Tamaqua, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at St. Luke's Miners Memorial in Coaldale, Pennsylvania.
Born Monday, January 17, 1927 in Tamaqua, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Robert, and Annabelle (Scheitram) Arner. He was also predeceased by his brother, Robert in 1934.
Surviving are; his beloved wife of 69 years, Mary Alice (Breslin) Arner; daughter, Kathy Carnish wife of James, of Tamaqua; sister, Faye Southam of Tamaqua; grandchildren, Dr. Erin R. Carnish and her husband Sean Bernard, Molly K. Carnish; great grandchildren, Colin, and Patrick Bernard.
A 1944 graduate of Tamaqua High School, Richie worked at the former Eames's Bakery in Tamaqua until being drafted in 1944 into the United States Army. Richie served overseas and upon his honorable discharge he enrolled in the Ford School of Business in Pottsville, graduating with an emphasis in Accounting in 1948. For a brief time, Richie worked for Mrs. Smith's Pie Co. on Center Street, before going to work at Peoples Trust Co., now M&T Bank of Tamaqua. He was hired by the former Atlas Powder Co, in 1950, and worked there until retiring in 1989, having served 38 years in the Accounting Department. In retirement, He worked for H&R Block of Tamaqua during tax season from 1981 - 2000. Richie enjoyed reading, was an avid Philadelphia sports fan, and enjoyed Penn State Football.
Richie was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tamaqua.
