Gwendolyn Louise Evans, R.N., mother, grandmother, great grandmother, of Tamaqua, passed away Sunday, May 16, 2021, at St. Luke's Miners Memorial in Coaldale, at 88 years of age.
Born on January 22, 1933 in Pottsville the daughter of the late Harry E., and Edith M. (Johnson) Brachman who passed away during Gwen's birth. Gwen was also predeceased by her husband, Robert D. Evans.
She is survived by; daughter, Deborah L. Davies and her husband John, Tuscarora; sons, Robert D. Evans and his wife Karen, Warminster, Craig S. Evans and his wife Bea of Tamaqua, Matthew Evans and his wife Pam of Deptford, NJ; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren.
A graduate of Tamaqua High School, Gwen attended Reading School of Nursing for a period of time leaving to start her family. Once she successfully raised her family Gwen returned to school at Bucks County Community College earning her certification as a Registered Nurse. Gwen's first nursing job was at Doylestown Hospital working in the Kidney Dialysis Unit. After the passing of her husband, Gwen moved home to Tamaqua were she became a vital part of the Tamaqua Visiting Nurse Association for many years, and then worked as a substitute nurse for the Tamaqua School system. Devoted to her church Zion Evangelical Lutheran of Tamaqua, she served as Parrish Nurse, and celebrated her joy of knitting by making many prayer shawls for the congregation. A terrific grandmother, many in our community knew Gwen for she rarely missed a sporting event or school activity in Tamaqua as she followed her grandchildren's endeavors.
