Gustavus C. "Gus" Schlorf, 81 years of age, of Tamaqua, Pennsylvania passed away on Tuesday, January 26, 2021, at St. Luke's Miners Memorial in Coaldale, Pennsylvania.
Born Monday, January 1, 1940 in Coaldale, Pennsylvania the son of the late Charles F. "Stix", and Mary E. (Knies) Schlorf. Gus was also predeceased by his beloved wife Penny L. (Krapf) Schlorf on Sept. 08, 2020; brothers, Charles F. Schlorf, Jr., George M. Schlorf.
Surviving are; daughter, Amy Friendy of Drums; brothers, Robert T. Schlorf and Elna of Tamaqua, Thomas R. Schlorf and his wife Lori of Tamaqua; sister, Joanne L. Snyder wife of Randy of Barnesville; god daughter, Tara Schlorf. Many nieces and nephews also survive Gus.
Gus had worked for the former J. E. Morgan Knitting for many years until they closed. In retirement he spent his summers managing Heisler's golf course in the New England Valley. Gus was a lifetime member of the Southward Fire Company in Tamaqua. Gus had served as Chief, and held numerous other line positions. Gus was past president of the Schuylkill County Firemen's Relief Association. In his youth Gus and his dad raised carrier pigeons. He was an ardent fan of Tamaqua Area High School Sports, the Philadelphia Eagles, and New York Yankees. Gus and his daughter Amy enjoyed trips to watch the Wilkes-Barre Penguins Hockey.
