George Wargo, Jr.

George Wargo, Jr., age 82, of Seventh Street Coaldale, died Friday, January 18, 2013, at St. Luke's Miners Memorial in Coaldale.

Survived by his wife of 26 years, Joan M. (Yelito) Wargo.

A 1947 Coaldale High School graduate, George entered the United States Air Force after graduation. A distinguished U.S.A.F. veteran, he rose to the rank of Chief Master Sergeant, serving 27 years during the Korean War, thru the Vietnam Conflict, retiring in 1974, only to then work five years as a civilian for the Department of the Navy.

George, earned 16 seperate accommodations and awards. The Korean Service Medal with 4 Bronze Stars, the Republic of Korea Service Medal, and the United Nations Service Ribbon. A Bronze Star and U.S.A.F. Meritorious Medal for his achievements in Vietnam having been deployed for two tours of duty.

He is a member of the Coaldale American Legion Post #170, and St. John Slovak Lutheran Church of Lansford.

Born in Hazleton, he was the son of the late George and Helen (Chopko) Wargo.

He is also survived by his;

Two Daughters,
Rebecca LeWallen and her husband Lou,
Jean Bates both of Gulf Port MS.;

Three Sons,
David Wargo of Valparaso, Fla.,
James Wargo of Rolla, Mo.,
Bruce Surotchak of Tamaqua;

One Sister,
June (Wargo) German of Cambridge, Ohio;

One Brother,
Robert J. Wargo and his wife Louise of Florida;

Three grandchildren; Stephen Surotchak, Stacie (Surotchak), Jasinski, and Paul Wargo.

Preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Anna Mae Dempsher.

Arrangements are being handled by E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home, Inc., 655 East Broad Street Tamaqua, Pa., where the family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, January 22, 2013.

Private Funeral service.

Interment with Military honors will be at Sky View Memorial Park in Tamaqua, Pa.
