George L. Mr. Lorah, age 93, of Lansford, Pa., died Friday, September 1, 2006, at St. Lukes Miners Memorial Medical Ctr. in Coaldale, Pa. George was a 1930 Lansford High School Graduate. He played football for three years, basketball for a year and also was manager of the track team for two years.George officiated football and basketball games for approximately 40 years, which included four Eastern Conference Championship games and one District 11 playoff basketball game. He also served as Vice President of the Anthracite Chapter of Football and basketball officials.Serving in the U.S. Army from 1943-1946 in the European Theatre, George was awarded the Bronze Star. At the end of the war he coached the 65th Signal Battalion Football Team. Upon returning home he went to work for the former Carbon Telephone Company as a lineman and eventually rose to District Manager for Alltel from which he retired after 36 years of service in 1977. After retiring George assisted senior citizens with household repairs through the Carbon County Office for Aging.A Member of the Emanuel U.C.C. of Lansfrod, Lansford Legion, American Fire Co. #1, and Lansford Masons 677. George was inducted to the Carbon County Chapter of the Sports Hall of Fame in 2001.Born in Tamaqua the son of the late James and Elizabeth Leidinger Lorah.Preceded in death by his wife Margaret "Peg" (Kotch) Lorah in 1983Survived by Son, George R. and his wife Christine of New Oxford, Pa.Daughter, Joan S. wife of George Kulanko of Bethlehem, Pa.
