Mr. George John Gurnavage, age 78, of East Union Street Tamaqua, PA, died Sunday, July 10, 2011, at St. Lukes Miners Memorial Medical Ctr. in Coaldale.
A member of SS. Peter & Paul R.C.C. of Tamaqua, George, served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.
He was a member of the Tamaqua American Legion and Tuscarora Flying Club.
A retiree of Kraft Foods of Allentown in 1992, George had worked for K.B.I of Hazleton from 1960 until 1979.
Born in Coaldale, he was the son of the late Walter and Mary (Sura) Matlock-Gurnavage.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jean P. (Herring) Gurnavage, who he shared his love of travel with.
One Daughter, Jean Marie (Gurnavage) Morrison and her companion David Schuetrumpf of Tamaqua;
Two Sons, George J. Gurnavage of Colorado Springs, Colo.,
James M. Gurnavage and his wife Karen A. Helgesen Gurnavage of Nazareth;
One Sister, Matilda Matlock of Williamsport;
Two grandchildren, Jeffrey Gurnavage, and Cassandra and her husband Robert S. Krause;
Two great-grandchildren, Cameron and Lucas Krause;
Preceded in death by a brother, Walter Gurnavage.
Arrangements are being handled by E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home, Inc., 655 East Broad Street Tamaqua, PA, where the family will receive friends from 6-8pm Friday, July 15, 2011; and Saturday, July 16, 2011 from 8:45-9:30am.
A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am, Saturday, July 16, 2011, from SS. Peter & Paul R.C.C. 307 Pine Street Tamaqua, Rev. Wiliam Linkchorst officiating.
Interment with Military Honors will be at Sky-View Memorial Park in Tamaqua.
