Gary D. Marchalk, Esquire

Gary D. Marchalk, Esquire, 60 years of age, died Monday, June 19, 2017 at his home in Barnesville, Pennsylvania.

Gary is survived by his wife of 10 years, Linda (Gallo) Marchalk; his sons, Michael and Matthew D. Marchalk; his sister, Mrs. Cathy Santee, wife of Scott; his grandchildren, Adam, Emmah, Chad, Kadyn, and Mackynzie; and his stepsons, David and Zachery Zerby.

Born in Austria into a military family, he was the son of the late Michael and Blanche E.(Chevinsky) Marchalk. His first wife, MaryAnn (Calabrese) Marchalk, who passed away on September 1, 1997, predeceased Gary as well.

A 1974 graduate of Tamaqua Area High School, Gary was an outstanding student and athlete, participating in football and track. He served our country honorably as a member of the United States Army. After attending and graduating in 1980 from McCann's School of Business, where he earned an Associates Degree in Accounting, he then pursued his Bachelors in Business Administration and Hotel Management, graduating magna cum laude in 2001 from New York Institute of Technology.

Gary was a legal administrator for the Law Firm of Cerullo, Datte and Wallbillich, PC in Pottsville while attending Widener School of Law in Harrisburg, where he completed in 2005 his law degree cum laude and, subsequently, passed the Pennsylvania State Bar Exam that same year. He also held positions as corporate accounting manager, consumer and commercial loan officer, as well as other positions in the finance, insurance, coal and textile industries. In 2005, Gary opened his own firm, The Law Offices of Gary D. Marchalk, in Tamaqua, while simultaneously operating the title firm of Northeast Pennsylvania Abstract, now Northeast Edge Associates.

Gary was also very involved in local and county Republican politics over the years and provided great counsel to all those who were a part of the committee.

Gary handled thousands of residential and commercial real estate closings, interfacing with buyers, sellers, realtors, and lenders. Gary also practiced both criminal and civil law and was an excellent advocate for his clients. Gary took great pride in representing the community and people of Tamaqua and Schuylkill County, as well as many surrounding counties. He was a happy and familiar face in the community and courthouse. For years, a day that many in the Courthouse looked forward to was when Gary and Linda would provide pizza to all employees of the county as well as anyone who stopped by the canteen area. Many nonprofits have been the recipients of their good will, both in their involvement and philanthropic endeavors.

A Remembrance Service will be held on Monday evening, June 26, 2017, at 8 P.M. at the funeral home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4 P.M. until the time of service.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorials in honor of Gary be made to Schuylkill Area Community Foundation, 216 S. Centre Street, Pottsville, PA 17901, with the memorials going towards Drug & Alcohol prevention and education here in the county.
